Atrial Fibrillation (AF) affects close to 7 million people in the US and EU alone, and its prevalence is predicted to more than double by 2050 in the United States due to the ageing population. Atrial Fibrillation is a growing health concern directly responsible for an increased morbidity and mortality. Current AF treatment goals are the prevention of thrombo-embolic complications and reduction of symptoms.

RecordAF, Registry on Cardiac rhythm disORDers was a unique worldwide initiative dedicated to improving knowledge of AF management in day-to-day clinical practice. This observational, 12-month prospective survey, started in May 2007, recruited 5604 eligible patients with paroxysmal or persistent AF from 21 countries and more than 500 cardiologists.
The primary objectives of RecordAF were to assess the rate of therapeutic success of AF management at 12 months follow-up and to compare clinical outcomes between the two main strategies, rhythm control vs. rate control.

RealiseAF (Real life global survey evaluating patients with atrial fibrillation) is a unique, international, observational, cross-sectional registry, which will continue to support the cardiology community by building upon the information gathered by RecordAF.
Aiming to recruit over 10,000 patients across more than 900 sites, RealiseAF is designed to investigate AF management and CV risk profiles for the entire AF population, encompassing patients with new AF, permanent AF, and idiopathic AF. The goals of RealiseAF are to raise awareness of the condition, gain a snapshot of the control of AF across the spectrum of patients and characterize the CV risk of the AF population.
