RecordAF in Review

 

The RecordAF registry has provided a unique insight into the present day management of AF across the globe, which will influence how cardiologists manage AF patients in the future. Detailed below are some highlights from the past 18 months of the registry.

 

  • 5604 patients enrolled across 532 sites in 21 countries
  • Baseline data:
    • Cardiovascular (CV) risk factors and co-morbidities common; 68% hypertension, 42% dyslipidemia, 18% coronary artery disease and 16% diabetes
    • Rhythm control the preferred treatment strategy (55% of patients)
  • 6-month follow-up visit yielded high levels of case report form returns (98.5%)
  • Overall, 92.3% of patients completed the 1-year follow-up visit
  • 1-year data:
    • Therapeutic success was achieved by 60% of the rhythm-control group compared with 47% of rate-control group (p<0.001)
    • High level of clinical events (18% overall), of which 90% were CV hospitalization
    • No difference observed in the frequency of clinical events between rhythm control (17%) and rate control (18%)
    • Lower likelihood of progression to permanent Atrial Fibrillation (AF) when treated with rhythm control (13%) compared with rate control (54%)
    • Sinus rhythm achieved by only 33% in the rate-control group compared with 81% in the rhythm-control group
